Yeast Infection Cures
If you have never had a yeast infection before or are experiencing recurring infections, see your doctor. She can prescribe a stronger medication than you can get over the counter. However, most yeast infections can be treated with over the counter medication. If you suspect that you have a yeast infection, visit your doctor first.
Over the Counter Treatments for Yeast Infections
Read the label of all medications and follow the directions carefully. If you have a reaction to the medication or your infection doesn’t begin to clear up in a few days, make an appointment with your doctor.
Some of the products currently available over the counter include:
- Femstat 3 (butoconazole nitrate)
- Gyne-Lotrimin (clotrimazole)
- Monistat 7 (miconazole)
- Vagistat (tioconazole)
What is the Remedy for a Yeast Infection?
Yeast infections have been the bane of women for thousands of years. Not surprisingly, there are nearly limitless home remedies for its treatment and almost all of them can be found on the web. However, it is always a good idea to consult your doctor.
Yogurt although seemingly an odd remedy, actually makes a lot of sense. The bacterium Lactobacillus acidophilus naturally occurs in yogurt but is also commonly found in healthy vaginas. Yeast does not exist well in an area with the bacteria and is killed.
Make sure to use only plain yogurt that is free of sugar, but has live Lactobacillus acidophilus. Using a syringe with no needle, apply yogurt inside of the vagina and also coat the outside. Application should be once or twice daily until the symptoms are gone. Another means of acidophilus is through ingesting tablets which can be found at many health food markets.
Garlic is another natural antifungal and adding garlic tablet to your diet can help.
Cranberries can lower the pH of your urine which may raise the pH of the vagina. Generally cranberries and cranberry tablets are best as a preventative or a supplement however, rather than a cure.
Getting Rid of Yeast Infection Itchiness
It can take several days with even prescription remedies for the infection to subside, so here are a few ways to deal with the symptom of itching.
A paste of slippery elm and water applied to the outside of your vagina can ease itching.
Aloe vera juice, chilled in the refrigerator can be applied to the outer vagina with a soaked cotton pad.
Keep in mind that both of these are only for easing symptoms and should not be used internally.
